Mike, no one lives doubt free. God never asks that of us. Jesus got after his disciples sometimes about their doubt, but they were still his disciples. They didn’t have to have it all figured out. It sounds like you’re setting the bar way higher than Jesus ever did.

Keep being honest with yourself. That’s huge. But while you’re doing the honesty thing, be honest about Jesus too. Was he in the business of binding people so tightly that they couldn’t breathe and wanted to puke? Or was he the one who set captives free? He’s the one worth listening to, not the voice of self-hatred.

i have worked myself up into a lather on this. so much my chest gets tight and i through up.
i feel mostly i beleive. i want to beleive with out doubt. but when im honest with myself doubt reapears.

It’s a double-edged sword. Since we’re social beings, failing to fit in can really limit your options. But as you say, trying to be someone else’s idea of normal can stunt your development. The art of relationship is being yourself among others, so as a parent I’m much more interested in teaching my kids relationship skills than in making them fit in or stand out.

Well spoke. Especially the part about becoming a good friend.

I am thinking about this topic lately,of how people are trying to be normal in order to feel accepted.

I think our desire to be normal is something to overcome. The desire for parents to have normal kids, as understandanble as it is, is actually an obstacle in the development of their kids.

When I was younger and I tried insulting my brother, he would hear me out and say “I love you too”… :-)
